Santoro Adds Two to Wolfpack Women's Soccer Ranks

    Dec. 9, 2013

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State women’s soccer program received a boost recently with two new additions, as head coach Tim Santoro and his staff added Alexa Allen and Jenna Kalwa to the Wolfpack.

“We’re excited to add Alex and Jenna to our program for the spring,” Santoro said. “To get them in and integrated into the team right away will be a big benefit and start the process of building our roster after the loss of our seniors.”

Alexa Allen | Redshirt Sophomore | Buford, Ga. (Auburn) | 5-8 | Forward
Allen joins the Wolfpack following one year of game action with the Auburn Tigers. She appeared in all 25 of the Tigers’ matches in 2012, finishing the year tied for fourth on the team in goals (3) and fifth in points (9). Of her 43 shots (fourth on the team), 23 (53.5 percent) were on target.

Alexa was an invitee to the 2010 National id2 Camp and also competed at the 2008 Super Y National Camp.

During her high school days, Allen was a Wendy’s High School Heisman winner, team captain, and the team MVP. She was a two-year honoree on the all-county team and burst onto the scene as a freshman, scoring 20 goals and recording five assists in her first year.

Allen played club soccer for UFA 94 Elite and appeared in the State Cup Finals every year since playing on a U12 squad.

    Jenna Kalwa | Junior | Pennington, N.J. (Penn State) | 5-5 | D/M
Entering NC State as a junior, Jenna Kalwa spent the last two seasons at Penn State University. Kalwa played in eight games during her freshman season, scoring the first goal of her career against Central Michigan. She dished out two assists in her rookie season, one in a nonconference game against Pittsburgh and another in a Big Ten matchup vs. Michigan State.

Kalwa played in four games for the Nittany Lions during the recent 2013 season, recording two total shots, one of which was on target.

Prior to her time at Penn State, Kalwa was a three-year letterwinner at Hopewell Valley Central High School, leading her team to conference championships in 2009 and 2010 as well as a state runner-up finish in 2010. In addition to earning NSCAA All-Region, All-CVC, All-South Jersey, and all-state honors, Kalwa was a state champion in track and field.

Kalwa played club soccer for the MFC 93 Wildcats, helping the team to multiple tournament championships, including the Atlanta Final Four Showcase in 2011. She was the team’s captain in 2011.

The NC State women’s soccer team enjoyed an improved 2013 season under new head coach Tim Santoro, going 7-12 overall. The Wolfpack went 5-1 in nonconference play and ended the season with a 2-1 win over No. 23 Wake Forest, the program’s first win over a ranked opponent since 2009.
