WOODSTOCK, Ga. – The NC State softball team’s appearance in the Phyllis Rafter Memorial Tournament was altered significantly on Thursday because of anticipated inclement weather throughout the weekend in the Atlanta area.

All of Friday’s games in the 11-team tournament have been cancelled and the location of all games has been moved from their original location in Woodstock to two alternate locations, Kennesaw State’s Bailey Park and Georgia State’s Heck Softball Complex.

The Wolfpack (6-4) will now play one game on Saturday, a 4 p.m. contest against Troy. The Pack will play two contests on Sunday, against Northern Colorado at noon and against co-host Georgia State at 4 p.m. All of State’s games will be played at Georgia State’s home field.

Akron will also play games at Georgia State, while Virginia Tech, Bowling Green, Youngstown State, Jacksonville and Campbell will play games hosted at Kennesaw State.

“This is what happens in these early tournaments when weather comes into play,” said first-year head coach Shawn Rychcik. “You have to be ready, and willing to adjust to the cards you are dealt.

“This is still an important weekend for us, in terms of learning about our team and getting better throughout the lineup. We’ll make the best of it and continue to compete hard.”

The two-day round-robin tournament is the third early-season tournament of the year for the Wolfpack, which won the FIU Panther Invitational in Miami two weeks ago and was the runner up in the USF 4-Team Tournament in Tampa last weekend.

The Pack is led in hitting by senior outfielder Caitlin Dent, who has a team-best .333 batting average. Sophomore shortstop Renada Davis and freshman designated player Hanna Sommer both have three home runs each.

Sophomore righthander Emily Weiman (6-3, 2.87 earned run average) has been he workhorse in the circle for the Wolfpack. She has 47 strikeouts and 11 walks in her 53 1/3 innings this season.
