ATLANTA – After winning three of its last four games, the NC State softball team is looking for a successful weekend when it makes its second ACC road trip to face Georgia Tech on Friday and Saturday.

The Wolfpack (14-14-1 overall, 2-3 ACC) will play a doubleheader against the Yellow Jackets (15-17) on Friday beginning at 4 p.m. at Georgia Tech’s Mewborn Field. The teams will meet again in the series finale on Saturday at 1 p.m., the final installment in a 12-game, transcontinental road trip for the Wolfpack.

State is coming off a doubleheader split on Wednesday against East Carolina in Greenville, N.C. The Pack won the second game 5-3 after losing the first game 5-2.

“This is another opportunity for us to go out and see what we can do against a really good team,” said first-year coach Shawn Rychcik. “They hit the ball really well. Their pitcher, Hope Rush, throws the ball hard. She is one of the best pitchers in our conference.”

The Pack’s top pitcher, sophomore righthander Emily Weiman, is 12-13 on the season and picked up her first career save in Wednesday’s second game, closing with 2 2/3 scoreless innings.

Junior second baseman Chelsea Tate had a triple and a home run in the opening game against the Pirates and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the second. Junior first baseman Leah Jones had hits in both games to extend her hitting streak to six consecutive games.

“It was good that we came back and won the second game,” said Rychcik, whose team swept a doubleheader last weekend at Virginia Tech in its first ACC road trip. “But it also proved we have to go out and do our best every single game. We are not a team that can just show up and win.

“We have to work hard for everything we get. And we will definitely have to do that this weekend in Atlanta.”

The Pack returns home on Wednesday to host Charlotte in a doubleheader at the Curtis and Jacqueline Dail Stadium, beginning at 4 p.m. Next weekend, it will host Maryland on Saturday and Sunday in its second ACC home series.
