    Weiman Shuts Out Camels
NC State softball extended its winning streak to six games by sweeping a mid-week doubleheader from Campbell today at Dail Stadium.

RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State’s softball team travels to Buies Creek, N.C., on Wednesday to face Campbell in a non-conference doubleheader between in-state foes.

The Wolfpack (19-17-1 overall, 5-6 ACC) is coming off an ACC series win over Maryland at the Curtis and Jacqueline Dail Softball Stadium. Wednesday’s midweek doubleheader begins a stretch of nine of its final 12 regular-season games on the road, followed by the ACC Tournament in Tallahassee, Fla.

The Camels (26-13 overall, 10-3 Big South) are having an outstanding season, led by the hitting of Raven Lee, who has 13 home runs, and a pair of .400 hitters, Ericka Nesbitt and Stephanie Jones. Pitcher Courtney Roberts has compiled a 14-4 overall record so far this season, with a 2.86 earned run average.

“They are having a really good year,” said first-year coach Shawn Rychcik. “They have some good wins on the year and they are at home in this doubleheader. We are going to have to be ready.”

The Pack, which has won five of its last six games, is led offensively by sophomore shortstop Renada Davis, who leads the ACC with a school-record 16 home runs this season. Junior second baseman Chelsea Tate, who leads the team with a .351 batting average, has reached base safely in 32 of the 36 games she has played this season.

Sophomore pitcher Emily Weiman (17-15), who has all six decisions in the Pack's recent run, is tied for 15th nationally with her victory total and leads the ACC in innings pitched and total appearances.

“It’s taken a while for me to learn a lot about this team, but I think we are in a good spot right now,” Rychcik said. “We know what to expect, when we can be aggressive and when we need to hold back.

“We still have some time to do a lot of good things this season, but it has to start by playing well in these two games.”

The Wolfpack returns home this weekend for its final home series of the season, as it plays North Carolina in a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday. The first two games will be broadcast on ESPN3 and the final game will be broadcast on the ACC Digital Network.
