April 24, 2013
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - NC State's volleyball team concluded its spring practice period last weekend at North Carolina by winning five of its eight sets in an all-day tournament.
The Pack swept a pair of sets against William & Mary and splits sets with North Carolina, Duke and Charlotte in the last of four spring tournaments for head coach Bryan Bunn and his squad, which finished the 2012 season with a 22-10 record and the program's second appearance in the NCAA Championship.
On Saturday, senior Meredith Richardson led the team with 17 kills and five blocks. Junior Alston Kearns had 32 digs, while sophomore Tanna Aljoe had 81 assists. Both juniors Nikki Glass and Rachel Buckley posted hitting averages above .340 on the day.
Glass hit .344 against UNC and Duke, while Buckley hit .467.
"The team has been working hard this spring," said assistant coach Pete Hoyer, who guided the team while Bunn was out of town recruiting. "The tournament was another opportunity for us to evaluate our progress both individually and as a group.
"With the spring season completed we now head into the summer knowing what we need to accomplish in order to achieve our goals for the fall."
