Volleyball Adds Two Signees for 2014 Season
April 29, 2014
RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State head volleyball coach Bryan Bunn announced the addition of two signees for the 2014 season on Tuesday. T’Asia Black and Julie Varga have signed National Letters of Intent (NLI) to compete for the Wolfpack in the fall.
Black comes to Raleigh after spending the past two years at Paris Junior College. The Longview, Texas native enjoyed a very successful tenure with the program and was recently named a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-American for her stellar sophomore season.
The 6-0 middle blocker garnered second team All-America honors and was also tabbed a first team all-conference selection. She holds the school record for most blocks in a single season at Paris Junior College. Black will be a junior in 2014 and have two years of eligibility remaining.
“T’Asia is a fantastic athlete that will add depth to our middle blocking position,” Bunn added. “She’s very fast and gets off the floor in a hurry and will challenge for playing time immediately.”
Varga is a 6-1 outside hitter/right side with a very accomplished background. She hails from Oslo, Norway where she competed at Top Volleyball Academy. In 2013, she won the U19 Norwegian Championship in beach volleyball.
She was also selected to be a member of the U19 Norwegian National Team as a middle blocker/right side hitter. Her performance at the championships earned her all-tournament honors.
“Julie is a well-rounded player that brings a number of skills to our team,” Bunn noted. “She’s an accomplished beach player that will add ball control and experience to our OH/OPP position. We’re very excited to add her to our 2014 roster and she should come in ready to compete as a freshman.”
The addition of these two recruits brings the 2014 signing class to seven members along with 11 players returning to complete the 18-player roster for the 2014 season.
Black and Varga join Julia Brown, Emily Harris, Kaitlyn Kearney, Erica Narel and Perry Ramsey as the other members of the recruiting class.
