Pack Volleyball Hosts Pittsburgh Friday, Maryland Saturday

RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State women's volleyball team will look to remain undefeated in home conference matches this weekend when it hosts Pittsburgh on Friday, Oct. 25 and Maryland on Saturday, Oct. 26. Friday's contest is slated to begin at 7 p.m. and Saturday's match will begin at 5 p.m. in Reynolds Coliseum.
The Wolfpack (15-5, 6-2 ACC) split a pair of matches over the weekend, falling to Virginia Tech on Friday, 3-0, before bouncing back on Saturday with a 3-0 win at Virginia. State collected its eighth shutout of the season against the Cavaliers and third ACC sweep. The loss against the Hokies snapped a five-match conference winning streak, which was the longest in the conference at the time.
Junior Dariyan Hopper leads the team with 226 kills on the season, an average of 3.48 kills per set. Senior Brie Merriwether has recorded 80 blocks or 1.27 blocks per set on the season, which ranks 44th nationally. Sophomore setter Tanna Aljoe has dished out 10.40 assists per set for a total of 728 this season. Defensively, junior Alston Kearns paces the squad with 4.43 digs per set, the fourth-best average in the conference.
The first 500 fans into the match on Friday will receive pink pom-poms. At the match on Saturday, there will be a drawing for two tickets to the NC State versus Maryland football game on Nov. 30.
Junior Jessica Wynn leads the offensive attack with 3.09 kills per set, followed by classmate Kate Yeazel with 3.00 kps. Junior Lindsey Zitzke serves as the team's setter and has tallied 5.59 assists per set this season. The team's libero, junior Delaney Clesen, leads the group with 318 digs, an average of 4.03 per set.
Friday's contest will be the first meeting between the two schools as conference opponents. NC State and Pitt last met in 1983 with the Panthers winning, 3-2.
Senior outside hitter Mary Cushman leads the Terrapins offensively with 3.62 kills per set, while junior middle blocker Adreene Elliott has recorded 3.01 kps. Freshman Julia Anderson is the sqaud's setter and has dished out 5.58 assists per set. Senior libero Sarah Harper paces the defense with 349 digs or 4.85 digs per set.
NC State and Maryland only met one time last season with the Wolfpack winning, 3-0, in Reynolds Coliseum. The Wolfpack has won two of the last three meetings against the Terrapins.
