
Wolfpack Shines at Carolina Cup

Results
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The NC State track and field team finished the night with 11 ACC qualifying marks, as a large portion of the team made their season debuts at the Dick Taylor Carolina Cup.
Throws:
The Wolfpack throwers accounted for six of the team's qualifying marks. Nicole Chavis, SeQuoia Watkins and Lauren Evans all hit the mark in the women's weight throw.
Chavis led the way, improving on her season-best mark to win the event with a throw of 67'6.00". The win is Chavis' second in a row and her mark is currently tied for fourth place nationally.
Watkins opened her season with a fifth-place finish. The senior saved her best throw for last, recording a 58'4.00" throw on her final attempt. Lauren Evans competed in uniform for the first time, finishing seventh with a mark of 56'4.00".
On the men's side, Joshua Davis finished second in the event with a new PR of 65'2.00". His throw was also good for an ACC qualifying mark.
In shot put, Alyssa Dunn and Evans earned qualifying marks. Evans led the way, with a 45'3.50" heave, while Dunn trailed closely behind with a throw of 44'11.75".
Jumps:
Margaret Edwards and Christopher Garrick earned ACC qualifying marks in the high jump. Edwards finished fourth overall with a jump of 5'6.50". In the men's event, Garrick took second with a mark of 6'8.25".
The meet marked debuts for both jumpers, as Garrick competed in his first-ever collegiate meet, and UNCW transfer Edwards wore the Wolfpack uniform for the first time.
Amara Bell and Imari McLean both competed in the women's long jump posting jumps of 17'9.50" and 17'4.00", respectively.
Hurdles:
Josh Gandy led the Wolfpack men in the 60m hurdles, finishing third with a new PR of 8.22. Dorian Williams also slashed through his old PR, netting a new top time of 8.35.
On the women's side, the Pack debuted USC-transfer Mollie Williams and true freshman Nyah Hines. Both qualified for the final heat, as Williams posted a season-opening mark of 8.86 and Hines crossed the finish line in 9.12.
Sprints:
Jonathan Addison picked up an early-season victory and an ACC qualifying mark in the 60m dash, as he crossed the finish line in 6.80. UNCW transfer Brandon McLean also had a solid debut after finishing third in the prelims with a mark of 6.91.
In the 200m dash, Shannon Patterson won his heat and finished second overall, crossing the finish line in 22.12. After a conversion due to track size, Patterson's converted mark of 21.73 stands as an ACC qualifying mark and a new PR. Will Krehnbrink also had a solid debut, finishing first in his heat and fourth overall in 22.48.
Paisley Simmons led the women in the event with a time of 24.85, finishing just .007 of a second from second place.
Mid-Distance:
Jon Knight made a strong debut in the 800m, crossing the finish line in 1:55.51 for second place. Knight shaved almost a second off his final 400m split and led briefly during the race. Jack Hagood took fifth in the event with a time of 1:56.46.
Bobby Mintz made his season debut in the mile, finishing second in 4:18.82. After starting the race near the middle of the pack. Mintz worked his way to the front. The redshirt senior picked up the pace down the stretch and finished strong with a final 400m split of 1:02.09.
Rachel Bartolomeo finished third with a time of 10:24.31 in the 3,000m race on her track debut. The redshirt freshman started the race at the back of the group but worked her way to third and held the spot for most of the race. Rebekah Greengrass also made her track debut, finishing seventh in 10:59.61.
Multi-Events:
Wolfpack multi Grant Rivers also had a solid meet, netting an indoor pole vault PR for the second time in as many meets. The redshirt sophomore cleared the bar at 14'1.25" for the new mark. Rivers, who has already competed in a heptathlon this season, lined up in three events tonight.
