Chavis Shatters School Record, Addison Jumps Into National Rankings

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Pack's field athletes made their #STATEMENT, as a the weight throw school record fell and Jonathan Addison jumped into the national discussion.
Â
Nicole Chavis opened the meet, shattering her previous PR and school record to take the nation's top weight throw mark of 71'10.75". Addison made his season debut in the long jump, winning the event with a jump of 25'11.00" that ranks third in national standings.

Throws:
Chavis re-took command of the nation's top mark in the weight throw and reset her own school record with a colossal throw of 71'10.75". Chavis has firmly held the school record in the event for the past two years. Tonight, she improved on her record by 1'7.00".

Entering the event, Chavis was ranked fifth in the nation, the throw tonight puts her 10.25" clear of the nation's second-furthest throw.

Also in the weight throw, SeQuoia Watkins finished eighth with a throw of 61' 4.25".

In the men's weight throw, Joshua Davis finished third with a mark of 63'7.75".

Jumps:
The Pack's high jumpers both had solid outings, as Christopher Garrick took fifth with a mark of 6'8.25" and Margaret Edwards improved on her season-best, finishing fifth with a mark of 5'7.25"
Both Addison and Alexis Perry competed in the long jump for the first time this season. Addison won the men's event with a leap of 25'11.00". The mark puts Addison in NCAA qualifying position and ranks third in the country and first in the ACC.

On the women's side, Perry finished sixth on her season debut, jumping 19'11.00". Her mark ranks fifth in the conference.

Amara Bell finished with a season-high mark in the event, posting a jump of 18'8.00".

Sprints:
The Wolfpack sprinters picked up two more ACC qualifying marks in the 200m dash. On the women's side, Paisley Simmons improved on her first mark of the year by almost a second, crossing the finish line in 24.32. The mark vaults her from ninth to sixth in the conference standings.

On the men's side, Quashawn Cunningham made his season debut, finishing fourth in 21.54 to earn the conference mark. Cunningham's time currently ranks second in the ACC. Shannon Patterson, who earned his conference mark at the Carolina Cup, posted a season-best time of 21.67 for seventh place.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The distance groups had several distance runners earn new PRs on day one of the Camel City Elite.

Esther Fisher led the way for the Pack, finishing fourth out of 65 runners in the mile race. Fisher earned a new PR of 5:01.75, which is a six-second improvement from her previous personal best and a 20-second improvement from her first race of the season.

Running unattached, Bethany Neeley and Megan Vaughn both captured top-10 finishes. Neeley crossed the finish line in 5:02.85, while Vaughn finished 10th in 5:04.55.

In the 3,000m run, true freshmen Ben Barrett and Tanis Baldwin both picked up top-10 finishes, while competing unattached. Baldwin finished 5th(8:32.69) and Barrett 10th(8:32.59). The race marked collegiate track debuts for both runners.
