Wolfpack looks to post strong team score at qualifier
RALEIGH, N. C. – The 10th-ranked NC State rifle team hopes to turn in a strong performance at the NCAA Qualifier Match held at The Citadel this weekend. The Wolfpack's score at the qualifier match will be added to its three-match average for the season to determine if it will be among the top eight teams nationally to earn a trip to the NCAA Championships.
Â
NC State has compiled a 23-4 record on the season and has competed at The Citadel's rifle range three times this year and has tallied an average team score of 4636 in those events.
Â
"This match has multiple purposes," said head coach Keith Miller. "It is our NCAA Qualifier, which will contribute 50% of our ranking score. Â Thus the score from this match, added to our existing top three-score average of 4657.67, will determine our ranking. Â
Â
"We are currently No. 10, with the top eight schools advancing to the NCAA Championships, so a good showing this weekend could help us in our efforts to qualify as a team."
In addition to the team qualification process, the match alone will determine NCAA individual invitees. (The top four smallbore and top four air rifle scores fired by individual shooters whose teams do NOT qualify are extended NCAA invitations.) Â
The match is also an NRA Sectional match, as well as SEARC #8.
Â
The Wolfpack is unbeaten in South Eastern Air Rifle Conference (SEARC) with a 17-0 clip.
