
NC State Starts Strong At Florida Relays

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - NC State's sprinters, jumpers and thowers concluded the opening day day of the weekend with several strong marks at the Florida Relays. Jonathan Addison added an event win in the long jump, two athletes earned big PRs and the men's 4x400 relay qualified for the finals.

Throws:
Nicole Chavis opened the the meet for the Pack with a big PR in the discus, throwing 170'0" for third place. The mark beats her previous personal best by 3'4". The mark also puts her in a strong regional position. This is two straight weeks of solid marks in the event for the senior. Last week, Chavis won the event at the Raleigh Relays.

Jumps:
Jonathan Addison added his second-straight win of the season in the long jump. He once again took three jumps to earn the winning mark then passed on his final three marks to hold onto the win. Addison recorded a season-best mark of 25'11.00" for the win. The mark is good for the nation's second-best jump.

On the women's side, Alexis Perry also jumped a season best with a mark of 20'3.00". The mark was good for seventh place and the fourth-best collegiate mark.

Sprints:
The Wolfpack sprinters put out a strong performance. Quashawn Cunningham led the way for men's squad with a 10.40. He finished as the 12th collegiate athlete in the loaded field. Addison added a time of 10.53. Cunningham currently leads the conference with his mark of 10.34 and Addison is currently fourth with a 10.47.

On the women's side, Paisley Simmons and Gabriele Cunningham both logged times of 11.79.

In the 400m dash, Tiana Patillo added a PR and ACC qualifying mark in the event, running 55.40.

In the relays, the Wolfpack's 4x400 squad posted a speedy mark of 3:10.81 to qualify for the finals for ninth overall and second in their heat.

Hurdles:
The Wolfpack hurdlers also added some impressive marks for the second meet in a row, as Perry tied her season high of 13.18 for sixth place. In the men's 400m hurdles Erin Jenkins finished just a tenth of a second from his PR in 53.13.

NC State will run at the Stanford Invitational later tonight and continue competition Saturday at the Florida Relays and also have athletes in competition at the VertKlasse Meeting.
