
Wolfpack Sprinters Shine at Virginia Challenge

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – NC State's 4x100 team of Nyheim Hines, Jonathan Addison, Shannon Patterson and Quasahwn Cunningham won the event with a meet record of 39.42 – good for the 10th-fastest time in the NCAA this season, as the NC State track and field team opened action at the Virginia Challenge Friday night.
 
Relays:
The men's 4x100 relay team Hines, Patterson, Addison and Cunningham made its highly anticipated debut and won the event in a speedy 39.42. The time is ranked 10th in the country, fourth in the East and second in the ACC. The relay team dominated the meet's field, winning by almost half a second.
 
 
 
Sprints:
The men's short-distance sprinters placed four in the top-10 standings of the 100m dash and had four earn personal bests.
 
Cunningham led the way with a wind-legal 10.33 for third. He previously ran a wind-aided 10.34 at the Raleigh Relays. Cunningham's time moves him into 21st in the nation, 11th in the East and into sole control of the ACC's second-best mark this season.
 
Patterson added a 10.51 PR – good for fifth. The mark was a .14 second improvement from his previous season best. Hines made his outdoor-season debut, finishing sixth in 10.54. Addison rounded out the top-10 standings for the Pack for 9th place, and Brandon McLean ran a season-high 10.69 for 15th overall.
 
On the women's side Paisley Simmons finished 15th in a highly-competitive field with a time of 11.94.
 
In the 400m dash, Will Krehnbrink tied his personal best in the event, finishing sixth with a time of 47.18. Krehnbrink is currently ranked 6th in the ACC in the event.
 
Jumps:
The women's triple jumpers both finished with top-10 marks. Javonne Antoine led the way in 2nd place with a jump of 40'9.00". It marked the third time this season Antoine has cleared 40 feet. She is currently ranked third in the conference. Amara Bell finished the meet in sixth with a jump of 39'7.25".
 
Multis:
Grant Rivers opened the first half of the decathlon with 3,244 points and sits in 8th place. Rivers added season-best marks in the 100m dash(11.96), high jump(6'4.75") and long jump(21'5.50).
 
Distance:
Rachel Bartolomeo took 13th in the women's steeplechase with a near 29-second personal best of 10:28.73. After narrowly missing out on the ACC qualifying standard at the Raleigh Relays, Bartolomeo blew past the mark tonight to qualify for the conference championships. She is currently sixth in the ACC in the event.
 
On the men's side, Bakri Abushouk added another ACC qualifying mark in the event, crossing the finish line in 9:10.42. The mark is seconds off his PR and marks his first attempt at the event this season. He is currently ranked 8th in the ACC in the event.
