Service Animal Policy

Policy Statement
NC State University (NC State) recognizes the importance of Service Animals to qualified individuals with disabilities and has established the following policy for the use of Service Animals in NC State athletic facilities and at athletic events. This policy is intended to act as a supplement to, and not conflict, University Regulation REG 04.20.05, Service Animals for Persons with Disabilities, (University Service Animal Policy).

Use of Service Animals
NC State allows Service Animals in its athletic facilities.
Â
The responsibilities of individuals using service animals are provided in the University Service Animal Policy. In addition to these responsibilities, and as specific to athletic facilities:
Removal of Service Animals
Where a Service Animal is removed pursuant to the University’s Service Animal Policy, the University will work with the handler to determine reasonable alternative opportunities to allow the handler to attend the athletic event without having the Service Animal on the premises.

Service Dogs in Training
Service dogs in training are permitted in all NC State athletic facilities on the same basis as Service Animals, provided that all of the following conditions are met:
Use of Emotional Support Animals
Emotional Support Animals are not permitted in NC State athletic facilities.Â

Use of Service Animals

The responsibilities of individuals using service animals are provided in the University Service Animal Policy. In addition to these responsibilities, and as specific to athletic facilities:
- The animal should be non-disruptive to other individuals attending the athletic event; and
- To the extent possible, the owner should ensure that the animal does not:
- Sniff or jump on people, tables, or the personal belonging of others.
- Block an aisle or passageway for fire egress.
Removal of Service Animals
Where a Service Animal is removed pursuant to the University’s Service Animal Policy, the University will work with the handler to determine reasonable alternative opportunities to allow the handler to attend the athletic event without having the Service Animal on the premises.

Service Dogs in Training
Service dogs in training are permitted in all NC State athletic facilities on the same basis as Service Animals, provided that all of the following conditions are met:
- The dog is being led or accompanied by a trainer for the purpose of training the dog.
- The trainer must have in their personal possession identification verifying that they are trainers of service dogs.
- Handlers of service dogs in training must also adhere to the requirements for service animals as outlined in the University’s Service Animal Policy and this policy.Â
Use of Emotional Support Animals
Emotional Support Animals are not permitted in NC State athletic facilities.Â
