
Pack Finish 8th at Puerto Rico Classic

Rio Grande, Puerto Rico - The 19th-ranked NC State men's golf team opened the spring portion of its schedule with an eighth-place finish at the Puerto Rico Classic at Rio Mar Golf Club.
NC State shot a final-round score of even-par 288 to finish the 54-hole event at +7 (288-295-288=871).
11 of the 14 teams in the field were ranked in the top 50 according to Golfstat. No. 4 Alabama won the team title at 28-under 836, followed by No. 6 Georgia Tech at 23-under 841 and No. 2 Oklahoma State at 17-under 847.
The Wolfpack defeated five ranked programs, including ACC rival Clemson and four clubs from the Big Ten (Ohio State, Purdue, Michigan and Northwestern).
Freshman Albin Choi fired his second 1-under 71 of the tournament and wound tied for 23rd at 1-over 217. The 52nd ranked player in the Golfstat Cup standings was at -4 with no blemishes on his card with two holes left on Tuesday, but went double bogey, bogey to finish.
Sophomore Mitchell Sutton, ranked 76th nationally, shot an even-par 72 today and tied with Choi for 23rd. He played a steady round that featured three birdies on Tuesday.
Junior Chad Day tied Choi for the Wolfpack’s best round of the day with a 1-under 71 to finish tied for 40th at 4-over 220. After a mediocre 77 on Sunday, the Raleigh native played the final 36 holes one-under par. He had five birdies on Tuesday.
Senior Brandon Detweiler, ranked 63rd nationally, placed in a tie for 49th at 7-over 223. He had four birdies, including three in a row to highlight his final round.
Mark McMillen finished tied for 63rd at 11-over 227.
Next up is the Rio Pinar Invitational on March 14-15 in Orlando, Fla.
