RIO GRANDE, P.R. – The NC State men’s golf team is in eighth place after day one at the Puerto Rico Classic at Rio Mar Country Club.
The Wolfpack shot a team score of 4-over 292.
Sophomore All-American Albin Choi sits tied for third after firing a 3-under 69, and is two shots off the pace set by Alabama’s Justin Thomas with a 67.
Choi recorded four birdies and just one bogey in his round on Sunday.
Senior Graham Baillargeon is tied for 17th with a 1-under 71. He also had four birdies on his day.
Senior Chad Day is tied for 36th at 2-over 74. He birdied No. 17 to offset just three bogeys.
Junior All-American Mitch Sutton returned from injury that forced him to miss all but one tournament in the fall, and shot a 78 and is tied for 61st.
Senior Mark McMillen is tied for 66th with a 7-over 79.
Alabama owns a seven shot lead at 12-under 276, followed by Clemson (-5) and Oklahoma (-4).
Second-round action continues Monday.
