AIKEN, S.C. – The NC State men’s golf team completed the first two rounds of play at the 2014 Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate on Monday. Following two times through the Palmetto Golf Club, the Pack is currently tied for seventh place among the field of 18 teams.
Senior Logan Harrell led the way for the Wolfpack on Monday, shooting two scores of 71 to end the day with a 142 (+2). He currently sits fifth in the field of 90 golfers.
“I did a really good job of keeping the ball in front of me today and giving myself good looks for birdies,” Harrell said. “It’s really important to keep the ball low out there (at the Palmetto Golf Club) and not try to force anything.
"Tomorrow, I’m just hoping to get a few more putts to fall and I should be in good shape.”
As a team, the Wolfpack shot a two-round score of 588 (+28) on Monday. State shot a 292 in the first round and a 296 in the second.
Stanhope Johnson (T20) and James Chapman (T27) also ended the day within the top third of the field. Johnson shot scores of 71 and 75 to end the day with a 146 (+6) while Chapman went 74 and 73 to end the day with a 147 (+7).
Andrew Decker (T70) and James McBride (T86) rounded things out for the Pack, shooting scores of 155 (+15) and 164 (+24), respectively.
NC State will close out play at the 2014 Palmetto Intercollegiate on Tuesday. The Pack will then quickly get back to action on Friday, competing in the three-day Chris Schenkel Invitational at Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro, Ga.
