LAHAINA on Maui, Hawaii – The NC State men's golf team shot a very strong first round at the 2015 Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational on Friday. Through one round of play, the Wolfpack is in second place among the 19 teams in the field, three of which are currently ranked within the Golfstat top 25.
Led by 68s (-3) from David Cooke and Jacob McBride, the Wolfpack shot a 279 (-5) Friday and is only three strokes behind tournament leader Oklahoma. Cooke and McBride are currently tied for eighth place in the field of 102 golfers while freshman Stephen Franken (-2) is tied for 15th. As one of the highlights from his strong round, McBride carded an eagle on the par-5 ninth hole.

LEADING IN BIRDIES
NC State recorded 19 total birdies throughout the first round of play to rank atop the field in this category. Cooke and McBride combined for 11 on the day.
CONSISTENCY IS KEY
In addition to leading the tournament field in total birdies, NC State shot the best average on par fours. The Wolfpack went -2 as a team on these holes and averaged a score of 3.96 strokes per hole.
SATURDAY'S PAIRINGS
The second round of competition will be played in shotgun format beginning at 1:30 p.m. ET (8:30 a.m. local time). NC State golfers are paired up with opponents from Oklahoma and host Hawaii and will tee off from holes 1-3.
