KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – Led by a strong debut from freshman Davis Richards (T6, E), the NC State men's golf team currently sits seventh through two of three rounds at the 2015 Kiawah Island Invitational.
In his debut round of collegiate golf, Richards carded a 70 (-2) and followed it with a 74 to end the day at even par and tied for sixth among the field of 81 golfers. His first round score of 70 had him tied for the lead with four other golfers. Teammate Jacob McBride is not far off this pace, having shot consistent marks of 72 (E) and 73 (+1) to end the first day tied for eighth.
As a team, NC State shot scores of 292 (+4) and 301 (+13) to end the first day with a 593 (+17). The Pack sits seventh in the field of 12 teams, but is just five strokes out of fourth place.
Tee times begin for Saturday's final round at 8 a.m. NC State golfers will tee off between 8:54 and 9:39 and are paired with Francis Marion and Charleston Southern.
