STATESBORO, Ga. – Led by two golfers currently ranking within the top eight of the tournament field, the NC State men's golf team completed the first round of play at the historic Schenkel Invitational Friday. Through one round at the Forest Heights Country Club, NC State is tied for ninth place with a team score of 283 (-5).
No. 10 Wake Forest holds the team lead with a score of 270 (-18). No. 15 Vanderbilt is four strokes behind at 274 (-14). Also sitting in ninth place with the Wolfpack is No. 4 Auburn and UAB.

BIRDIE STREAKS
David Cooke and Stanhope Johnson put together impressive birdie streaks during Friday's first round. Cooke connected on three straight birdies on holes 5-7 while Johnson achieved three birdies out of four chances from holes 7-10.
BACK NINE RALLY
After shooting three bogies and ending the front nine two strokes above par, freshman Stephen Franken recorded two birdies on the back nine before finishing the second half of the course one stroke under par.
ROUND TWO PAIRINGS
NC State golfers are paired with competitors from UAB and No. 4 Auburn for Saturday's second round. The Wolfpack will tee off on hole 10 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:36 a.m.
