AIKEN, S.C. – Led by top-20 finishes from Stephen Franken and Jacob McBride, the NC State men's golf team completed the third and final round of play at the 2016 Palmetto Invite Tuesday afternoon. The Wolfpack concluded the tournament in a tie for sixth place among the 18-team field.
NC State carded a 287 (+7) during its final time through the course at the Palmetto Golf Club. The Wolfpack finished the tournament with a three-round score of 863 (+23) and shared sixth place with Georgia Southern. NC State was just two strokes away from tying for fourth place with East Carolina and Chattanooga.
No. 22 South Carolina claimed top honors at the tournament, recording a team score of 821 (-19) to finish 18 strokes ahead of the nearest competitor.

GREAT START TO A CAREER
The 2016 Palmetto Invite represented the fifth tournament of freshman Stephen Franken's career. It was his third top-20 finish and his average round in South Carolina (70.6) was nearly two strokes below his season pace. Franken tied for first on par-three holes at the tournament, averaging 2.92 strokes per hole.
VAST IMPROVEMENT
Freshman Nolan Mills Jr. shot the second best score of his college career on Tuesday afternoon with a 69 (-1). This represented a 10-stroke improvement from his best score (79) on Monday. Stanhope Johnson also saved his best round for last, shooting a 72 (+2) on Tuesday after carding 75-73 Monday.

NC State returns to action on Saturday, March 12 at the General Jim Hackler Championship. The two-day tournament will be played at the Dunes Golf & Beach Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
