Cooke, NC State Comfortably Win Wolfpack Spring Intercollegiate

RALEIGH – Led by senior David Cooke's third career individual victory in his final home tournament, the NC State men's golf team captured the team title at the 2016 Wolfpack Spring Intercollegiate.
Cooke recorded a career-best score of 198 (-15) to earn a two-stroke victory over No. 22 Adrian Meronk of East Tennessee State. As a team, the Wolfpack posted a three-round score of 831 (-21) to defeat No. 16 USF by eight strokes and No. 21 Virginia by 20.
The team victory was the 53rd achieved by the NC State program. Cooke's individual win marked the 89th time a Wolfpack golfer has claimed top honors in a competition. His score of 198 is the new Lonnie Poole Golf Course tournament record.

STATISTICAL DOMINATION
In addition to claiming the top spot on the leaderboard, the Wolfpack dominated many of the statistical categories at this weekend's tournament. As a team, the Wolfpack earned the best score on par fours (4.01 strokes), par fives (4.80), achieved the most pars (174), and scored the most eagles (5). Cooke led the field of 93 golfers in average scores on par threes (2.67) and par fives (4.25), while Franken led the field with an average of 3.78 shots per par four.

With the regular season in the books, NC State will now prepare for postseason play. The Wolfpack will travel to New London, N.C., for the 2016 ACC Championship, to be played April 22-24 at The Old North State Club.
