
Cooke Ties for Third at Hootie at Bulls Bay

Final Results
AWENDAW, S.C. – The NC State men's golf team saved its best round for last at the 2016 Hootie at Bulls Bay. Carding a combined score of 285 (-3) during Tuesday's final round, the Wolfpack finished ninth in the tournament field of 15 teams.
Senior David Cooke rebounded from a difficult round Monday, shooting a 68 (-4) Tuesday to end with a cumulative score of 216 (-3). Cooke finished tied for third in the tournament field, marking the sixth top-10 result and eighth top-20 result of his career.
No. 16 South Carolina claimed the tournament team championship, shooting a combined score of 841 (-23) to defeat its nearest competitor by 15 strokes. NC State finished ahead of six teams—including No. 31 Kentucky—during its final road tournament of the regular season. The middle of the tournament field was quite close, as NC State finished just six strokes out of a tie for fifth place.

Freshman Stephen Franken has competed in eight of NC State's nine tournaments this season. With his 17th-place finish at the Hootie at Bulls Bay, he has finished within the top 20 of tournament fields five times. Franken's best finish to this point in his career was a fourth-place result at the Quail Valley Invite (October 26-27).
QUITE A FINISH
Three of NC State's five golfers finished Tuesday's final round at or below par. Led by Cooke's 68, Franken (71, -1) and Jacob McBride (72, E) finished the tournament with very strong rounds. Junior Chad Cox also recorded his best round of the tournament on Tuesday, shooting a 74 (+2).
UP NEXT
NC State concludes the 2015-16 regular season with its second home tournament of the year. The team will host the Wolfpack Spring Intercollegiate at Lonnie Poole Golf Course on April 16-17 before heading to the 2016 ACC Championship (April 22-24) in New London, N.C.
