
Strong Second Round Pushes Pack into Lead of Wolfpack Intercollegiate

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State men's golf team shot a 13-under par 275 in the second half to overcome an eight-shot deficit to take a three-shot lead heading into the final round of the Wolfpack Intercollegiate.
The Pack shot an even-par 288 in the opening round and trailed first round leader Campbell by eight shots, but the strong second round performance gives NC State a three-shot lead over Campbell and Jacksonville heading into the third and final round.
Junior Benjamin Shipp led the Pack on Saturday with a two-round score of five-under par (139). The Duluth, Ga., native shot a one-over 73 in the first round, but rebounded in the second round, registering seven birdies and just one bogey in the afternoon to move up 25 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for fourth place.
Defending Wolfpack Intercollegiate champion Stephen Franken is two shots back of Shipp in a tie for 11th. Like Shipp, Franken improved as the day went on as he shot an even-par 72 in the morning and a three-under 69 in the afternoon to move 13 spots up the leaderboard.
Sophomore Easton Paxton is next for the Pack in a tie for 19th place. Paxton led the Pack in the first round, shooting a two-under par 70 in the opening 18 holes and closed the day with an even-par 72 in the afternoon.
Christian Salzer and Harrison Rhoades are both tied for 28th place at even-par 144 through two rounds. Salzer improved by six shots in the afternoon, registering a three-under par 69 in the afternoon after an opening 18 hole 75, while Rhoades improved two shots from his morning performance, firing a one-under 71 in the afternoon.
Davis Richards paced the six NC State players playing as individuals as he is tied with Rhoades and Salzer in 28th place at even par. Justin Hood is one shot back of Richards in a tie for 38th place, while Nolan Mills, Jr., is one shot back of Hood in 43rd place. Dwight Cauthen shot an even par 72 in the afternoon, an eight shot improvement from his morning round and is in a tie for 77th place.
Thomas Deal and Andrew Wilmoth made their NC State debuts on Saturday. The two freshmen are in a tie for 68th place (Wilmoth) and and a tie for 86th place (Deal) after two rounds.
NC State will tee off at 9:30 am on Sunday morning.
