VERO BEACH, Fla. – The NC State men's golf team opened play at the 2015 Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational on Monday. Following two rounds at Quail Valley Golf Club, the Wolfpack currently sits fifth of 15 teams with a team score of 570 (-6).
Freshman Stephen Franken (T3) and captain David Cooke (T9) had strong days on the course, pacing the Pack to its current position of a mere five strokes behind first place. Franken shot a 71 in the first round and followed it up with a career-best score of 67 to end with 138 (-6) through the first day. Cooke dropped five strokes from his first-round 73 to shoot a 68 and finish the day with a score of 141 (-3).

EAGLE SIGHTING
During the first round of play, freshman Davis Richards carded an eagle on the par-5 10th hole. In addition to this feat, he achieved 10 birdies on Monday.

Franken and Cooke were very strong on par fours Monday, tying for second in the field with an average score of 3.85 on those holes. Richards had a similar level of success on par fives, tying for second in the field of 75 golfers with an average score of 4.25.
TOMORROW'S TEES
Tuesday's final round will begin at 8 a.m. and will feature seeded tee times. NC State golfers are paired with student-athletes from North Florida and Memphis and will tee off between 8:45 and 9:21.
