Wolfpack Dominates First Day of Golfweek Conference Challenge

BURLINGTON, Iowa – The NC State men's golf team turned in a dominating performance Friday on the first day of the 2015 Golfweek Conference Challenge. Four Wolves finished the day in the top seven of the tournament field, as the team shot an impeccable 269 (-19) to finish the afternoon in first place by 12 strokes.
In just the second tournament of the 2015-16 season, the Wolfpack has already beaten its best score from last season, which was a 275 at the Wolfpack Spring Open. The team total of 269 ranks as one of the lowest rounds in the history of the NC State men's golf program.

FIRST YEARS, SECOND TOURNAMENTS
For the second straight tournament, NC State freshmen Nolan Mills Jr. and Davis Richards have made an impact. Mills ended the day tied with teammate David Cooke for first in the field of 75 golfers with a 66 (-6) while Richards ended the first round tied for seventh with a 69 (-3).
LEADING THE PACK
NC State finished the first day of play 12 strokes ahead of the next competitor (Charleston Southern), 15 in front of the tournament host (Iowa), and 29 ahead of the 2015 NCAA match play national champion (LSU).
BIRDIES!
NC State led the field of 15 teams with 26 birdies in the first day of action. Cooke paced the Wolfpack with seven.
PAR FOURS
The Wolfpack had a very strong day on par fours during the first round, averaging 3.78 strokes per hole. NC State shot a combined -11 on par fours Friday.
NEXT ROUND
Second round tee times are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. ET Saturday morning. The Wolfpack is paired with Charleston Southern and Iowa and will begin teeing off at 11:30 a.m. ET. Full tee times can be found at the top of the page.
