Wolfpack Places Fifth of 15 at General Hackler Championship

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Led by three individual finishes within the tournament field's top 15, the NC State men's golf team completed play at the 2016 General Hackler Championship Sunday in fifth place of 15 participating teams. The Wolfpack combined for a three-round score of 857 (-7) to finish in front of four Golfstat top-50 teams and just two strokes behind No. 16 UNC-CH.
Jacob McBride (T5th, -5), Carter Page (T12th, -2), and Stephen Franken (T15th, -1) all had very strong tournaments for the Wolfpack. McBride's top-five finish marks the sixth time in his career he has achieved this feat.
No. 19 South Carolina claimed top honors at the tournament with a team score of 841 (-23).

Three Wolfpack golfers carded scores at or below par during Sunday's final round. McBride and Page each shot 71s while freshman Franken concluded the tournament with an even-par 72.
BUCKING THE TREND
NC State's best round of the tournament—a team score of 284 (-4) during the second round—came during statistically the most difficult round of the competition. The overall average score of the 84 golfers during the second round was 74.11 strokes, while the Wolfpack's average score this round was 71.60.
BIRDIES
NC State finished second in the tournament field with 51 total birdies. McBride led the Wolfpack with 16 over the course of 54 holes played.
