RALEIGH – Led by an entire starting lineup within the top 25 of the tournament field, the NC State men's golf team concluded the first day of action at the 2017 Wolfpack Spring Open in first place. The Wolfpack shot impressive scores of 269 (-15) and 274 (-10) the first two times through its home Lonnie Poole Golf Course and holds a two-stroke lead over No. 15 Clemson with one round to play.
Jacob McBride and Nolan Mills Jr. are currently tied for third place in the field of 90 golfers after finishing at 133 (-9) through the first day. Benjamin Shipp and Harrison Rhoades are each tied for 16th with matching scores of 140 (-2) while Stephen Franken is tied for 25th at 141 (-1). McBride was one-under par through the first nine holes of his second round and finished on a tear, sinking three birdies and one eagle throughout the back nine to finish with a 65, tying his career best and achieving the lowest NC State score this season.
